The community of Roodepoort is reeling from the tragic murder of 14-year-old Likhona Fose, whose dismembered body was discovered shortly after she went missing. Likhona had left home to play with friends, but her life was cut short in a gruesome act that has left many in shock and grief.
Investigations into her death are ongoing, and police have made a significant breakthrough with the arrest of a 39-year-old man, Mduduzi Mnisi, who has been charged with Likhona’s murder. Gauteng Police Spokesperson Lt-Col Mavela Masondo confirmed that the police’s occult unit has been diligently working to uncover the circumstances surrounding the crime. Mnisi was called in for questioning on June 9, 2025, and has been linked to the murder.
Mnisi appeared briefly in the Roodepoort magistrate’s court, where he expressed his intention to apply for bail. He is scheduled to appear next in court on June 18, 2025, as the state intends to oppose his bail application.
Outside the courtroom, community members gathered to protest, calling for justice for Likhona. The loss of such a young life has sparked an outpouring of grief, with many standing in solidarity with Likhona’s family during this difficult time.
Likhona’s family is now focused on honoring her memory. They have announced plans to hold her funeral on June 14, 2025, where they will gather her remains and return them to the Eastern Cape for burial.
Likhona’s grandfather spoke with a reporter from ENCA, expressing that the unexpected murder has left the family unprepared for the associated expenses. He mentioned that they are facing financial difficulties and that while the family hopes for assistance with transportation or groceries, they remain hopeful that God will provide. Despite these challenges, the family is determined that the burial will proceed as planned on Friday.
As the investigation continues, the community remains vigilant, demanding accountability for this heinous act. The tragic circumstances surrounding Likhona’s death serve as a somber reminder of the urgent need for safety and justice for all children.
