Floyd Shivambu, the former secretary-general of the uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party, held a press conference today at the Mhulu Luxury Boutique Hotel in Midrand to announce his plans for a new political party. This comes after his recent removal from MK amid serious allegations.

Shivambu discussed his dismissal, calling it politically motivated. He faced accusations of trying to undermine Jacob Zuma, the party leader, which he firmly denied. He emphasized that political organizations should value their members rather than make them feel they need to beg for support.

Reflecting on his past, Shivambu pointed out that he left the African National Congress (ANC) when it was powerful. He questioned why he would now beg a party like MK, which currently lacks influence. This statement underscored his belief that political groups should earn their members’ loyalty.

He shared his vision for the new party, focusing on grassroots consultation. Over the next few months, he plans to engage with community leaders and ordinary citizens to understand their priorities and values. His aim is to create a political platform that genuinely addresses South African concerns.

Shivambu also addressed rumors about external sponsorship, stating that his new party would not be funded by controversial figures like Shepherd Bushiri. He stressed the importance of building an independent organization that reflects the values of its members.

To conclude, Shivambu mentioned that he would announce the leadership structure of his new party next week. This announcement will help clarify the direction of the new political entity as he seeks to gain support.
