Brown Mogotsi Silent as Police Await Statement on Alleged Assassination Attempt

The South African Police Service is still waiting for a statement from businessman Brown Mogotsi regarding an alleged attempt on his life that occurred on Monday night in Vosloorus. Mogotsi, a controversial figure linked to allegations of police corruption, has not presented himself to the Vosloorus Police Station to provide his account of the incident.

According to police reports, Mogotsi claimed that unknown assailants in a white bakkie fired upon his vehicle. However, despite the severity of the alleged attack, Mogotsi declined to open a case, citing fears for his safety. The police have nonetheless opened an attempted murder investigation and have seized Mogotsi’s vehicle for forensic analysis.

Adding to the mystery, police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe has stated that there was no evidence to suggest Mogotsi was injured during the shooting. This detail, along with conflicting eyewitness accounts, has led to speculation that the incident may have been staged. If investigations reveal that the shooting was indeed fabricated, Mogotsi could face charges of defeating the ends of justice.

Mogotsi’s silence comes at a critical time, as he is a key figure in the ongoing Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, which is investigating allegations of corruption and political interference within the criminal justice system. He has been summoned to appear before the commission to respond to claims made against him. Mogotsi is alleged to have acted as a middleman between senior police officials and underworld figures.

The Madlanga Commission has expressed serious concern for Mogotsi’s safety. The commission is probing allegations of criminal interference, political protection networks, and corruption within South Africa’s criminal justice system.

In addition to the Madlanga Commission, Mogotsi has also been summoned to appear before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee investigating police corruption. Evidence leader Advocate Norman Arendse has confirmed that Mogotsi is a priority witness for the committee.

The circumstances surrounding the alleged assassination attempt remain murky, and Mogotsi’s continued silence has only deepened the intrigue. As police continue their investigation, the public awaits answers and clarity on this complex case.
