Kamogelo Baukudi, a 19-year-old learner, has been rescued by police in the Free State after being kidnapped for over 20 days. The rescue took place early this morning, resulting in the arrest of five suspects involved in the abduction.

According to Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, the provincial police spokesperson, the operation was based on intelligence that led officers to a specific area. “We arrested five suspects during the operation. Three were found on the road in a township with the victim, while two others were caught at a nearby house,” Makhele explained. He confirmed that Kamogelo is safe and back with a parent. Thankfully, he had no visible injuries but will receive medical check-ups as a precaution.

Earlier this month, reports mentioned that the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court postponed the bail application of Philemon Adoon, a police officer linked to Kamogelo’s kidnapping. Police are now questioning the arrested suspects to see if they are connected to Adoon.

Kamogelo was taken while walking home from a school for children with special needs in Bloemfontein. Two men pretending to be police officers kidnapped him. This incident raised concerns in the community, leading to calls for help from officials.

Free State Education MEC Manthlake Julia Maboya had asked the public to assist in finding Kamogelo and bringing him back safely. “We urge everyone to help the police and the family in any way possible,” she said.

The successful rescue of Kamogelo is a relief for his family and the community, showing the importance of working together to address such serious crimes. As the investigation continues, authorities are focused on uncovering more details about the case.
