Principal and Staff Member Killed in Broad Daylight

A tragic incident has shocked the community as the principal and an administrative staff member of Inxiweni Primary School in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni, were fatally shot on November 18, 2025. The shooting occurred around 5 pm inside the school’s administration block, impacting teachers, students, and the wider community.
Reports indicate that the 58-year-old principal and the 55-year-old administrator were preparing for a meeting later in the week, along with other staff members. Gauteng Education Department spokesperson Steve Mabona stated, “It is alleged that the colleagues who were in a nearby office in the admin block suddenly overheard gunshots. Fearing for their safety, the colleagues allegedly hid until the situation appeared safe. When they emerged, they reportedly found the Principal and the administrator lying in the passage of the admin block.”
Emergency services were called but, unfortunately, both women were declared dead at the scene.
Police have started an investigation into the circumstances of this violent act. Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi and Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane visited the school later that evening to gather information and offer condolences to the families of the victims.
The Gauteng Department of Education expressed deep sadness over the incident. MEC Matome Chiloane condemned the shooting, saying, “We are horrified by this senseless and brutal act committed within a school, a place meant to be a sanctuary for teaching and learning. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go to the families of the Principal and the staff member whose lives were tragically cut short. We urge law enforcement authorities to move with speed to bring the perpetrator to justice.”
Psychosocial support teams will be sent to provide counseling and support to students and staff affected by the tragedy. Employee wellness officials will also be on-site to assist.
The shooting at Inxiweni Primary School highlights the urgent need for measures to ensure the safety and security of everyone, especially in schools.
