Family, friends, colleagues, and members of the South African media fraternity are gathering today at the San Salvador Catholic Church in Germiston to lay to rest renowned political journalist and broadcaster, Tshidi Madia. The service, a celebration of her life, sees mourners adhering to the request to dress in bold and colorful attire, a tribute to Madia’s vibrant personality and love for color.
Tshidi Madia, who passed away on August 27, 2025, at the age of 42 after a short illness, is remembered as a respected and influential figure in South African media. Born on August 23, 1983, in Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg, Madia’s career spans some of the country’s biggest media houses, including Eyewitness News, Radio 702, Power FM, and News24. She holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Johannesburg, where she majored in journalism and politics.
Madia is known for her fearless approach to political reporting, her insightful interviews, and her commitment to mentoring young journalists. EWN Editor-in-Chief Nisa Allie describes her as “the jewel in EWN’s crown,” a powerhouse who raised the bar for political reporting in South Africa.
Throughout her career, Madia demonstrates a commitment to holding power accountable and providing clarity on complex issues. She gains international attention for her work, including reporting from the Oval Office during a meeting between President Cyril Ramaphosa and then-US President Donald Trump. She also stands firm against misinformation, notably challenging false claims about land reform and violence in South Africa on international news platforms.
In addition to her reporting, Madia serves as the Associate Editor for Politics at EWN and hosts the critically acclaimed podcast “Politricking with Tshidi Madia,” which provides a platform for honest conversations with South Africa’s top politicians.
