South Africa Declares National Disaster Due to Flooding

Natalie Nyathi
South Africa declared a national disaster on Sunday due to severe flooding that has killed at least 30 people and damaged thousands of homes, particularly in Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces.
The declaration was made by the head of the National Disaster Management Center after torrential rains over recent weeks have led to widespread destruction, washing away roads and bridges.
The government is working on emergency response and recovery plans. The famous Kruger National Park has also closed, evacuating over 300 tourists and staff.
As rescue efforts continue, officials are on alert for more weather issues, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.
