The South African Police Service (SAPS) has launched a manhunt for Jabulani Moyo, a Zimbabwean fugitive wanted for the brutal murder of two police detectives in Roodepoort. In a significant move to aid in his capture, the police are offering a reward of R150,000 for any credible information that could lead to Moyo’s whereabouts.

On August 8, 2025, Moyo, who was awaiting trial, was being transported from a court hearing by detectives from the Florida Police Station. During this transport, Moyo allegedly overpowered his escorts and shot Detective Warrant Officer Vuyisile Sintwa and Sergeant Simon Masenya at close range. Tragically, Sergeant Masenya died at the scene, while Warrant Officer Sintwa succumbed to his injuries later at a hospital.

After the attack, Moyo fled the scene in the detectives’ unmarked police vehicle, which was later found abandoned. The stolen firearms from the officers were also taken, adding to the seriousness of the crime.

National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola has mobilized extensive resources for the manhunt, stating that Moyo is considered “armed and extremely dangerous.” Authorities have warned the public not to approach him but to report any sightings immediately. The police are utilizing a multidisciplinary team, including crime intelligence operatives and the specialized HAWKS unit, to track Moyo down. Masemola emphasized the importance of community cooperation, urging citizens to provide any information that could assist in bringing Moyo to justice. “This criminal must be stopped in his tracks,” he said, reinforcing that an attack on police officers is an attack on the state itself.

The shocking nature of the murders has sparked outrage and concern within the community. Many South Africans expressed their disbelief on social media, questioning how Moyo managed to overpower armed officers during the transport. Some have humorously suggested that he is already outside the country, while others have criticized the security protocols in place during prisoner transport.

Acting Police Minister Professor Firoz Cachalia has condemned the murders, extending condolences to the families and colleagues of the fallen officers. He highlighted the daily dangers faced by police officers in their line of duty and called for solidarity in the fight against crime.

As the investigation continues, forensic teams are processing the crime scene and following multiple leads. The SAPS has reiterated its commitment to honoring the memory of the officers and ensuring that justice is served.

Anyone with information on Moyo’s whereabouts is urged to contact the SAPS. Tips can be reported through the emergency tip line at 072 844 4442, or through the national crime stop number at 08600 10111. Anonymous reporting is also available via the MySAPS mobile app.

As authorities intensify their efforts to capture Jabulani Moyo, the R150,000 reward serves as an incentive for the public to assist in bringing this dangerous fugitive to justice.
