Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder and hijacking of a 27-year-old woman whose body was discovered along a roadside in Nancefield on August 24.

The breakthrough came on Monday, September 21, following an intelligence-driven operation in Freedom Park, Eldorado Park, nearly a month after the woman’s body was found with injuries to her upper body.

SHOOTOUT AT SCRAPYARD

At approximately 10:00 on Monday, intelligence information led officers to a scrapyard in Freedom Park, where a 27-year-old suspect was traced.

According to police, the suspect allegedly fled when he saw the officers and produced a firearm, resulting in a shootout. The suspect sustained injuries and was taken to hospital, where he remains under police guard.

Police recovered a 38 Special revolver with its serial number filed off, along with one live round of ammunition.

TWO MORE ARRESTS

Further intensive investigations led to the arrest of two additional suspects, aged 35 and 36, at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Monday in Freedom Park.

The deceased’s vehicle has not yet been recovered.

CHARGES AND COURT APPEARANCE

The injured 27-year-old suspect faces charges of murder, hijacking, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He is expected to appear in court once he has recovered from his injuries.

The two other suspects are also expected to appear in court soon.

POLICE COMMENDED

The District Commissioner for Johannesburg, Major General Nonhlanhla Kubheka, commended the members for their commitment and dedication in pursuing the investigation and securing the arrests.

Police investigations are continuing.
