Two Teenagers Shot Dead In Alexandra
Police have launched a murder investigation after two high school learners were shot dead in Alexandra on Monday night.
The victims, aged 17 and 19, were found with gunshot wounds at the corner of Roosevelt and 6th Avenue, near Madala Hostel. Both were declared dead at the scene.
The motive for the killings remains unknown, and no arrests have been made. Police have appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
A COMMUNITY IN MOURNING
The deaths have sent shockwaves through the Alexandra community, where residents have expressed outrage and grief over the loss of two young lives.
“This is too much. Our children are being killed like animals,” said a resident who asked not to be named. “We need police to do their job. We need these killers off our streets.”
Community Policing Forum structures have called for calm while urging anyone with information to assist the investigation.
A PATTERN OF VIOLENCE
The shooting is the latest in a series of violent incidents in Alexandra in recent months. In September, three separate murders were reported in the area, including a woman shot dead in front of her child and a fatal road-rage shooting between a taxi driver and a motorist.
In August, residents called for greater police visibility after a spate of shootings linked to illegal evictions and criminal extortion.
The killings have renewed concerns about the prevalence of illegal firearms in the township and the challenges facing police in tackling violent crime.
