Water Supply Cuts in Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni

People in Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni are facing water supply cuts as Rand Water carries out maintenance work. The project started on Monday and will reduce water pumping by 50% for two days.
Areas affected include parts of Johannesburg, Germiston, Benoni, and Katlehong. The maintenance will continue until Wednesday, and it may take up to seven days for the water supply to fully return. High areas and those relying on pumping may take longer to recover.
Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini urged residents to store enough water to prepare for the shortages. “We advise people and businesses to make plans to avoid inconvenience during this time,” he said.
To help, Rand Water will send water tankers to affected neighborhoods after 24 hours. While this maintenance is necessary, it highlights ongoing challenges with water supply in the region.
